Southampton Centre for Maritime Archaeology

he Centre for Maritime Archaeology was established to provide a focus for maritime archaeological research within the Department of Archaeology at the University of Southampton. Committed to the promotion and practice of maritime archaeology, undertaking projects from local to international scale, the CMA draws on skills and resources of university departments and outside organisations to create a distinctive and progressive environment for research.

Divers drawing and measuring hull profiles
* Practical courses in the Department of Archaeology and through the Nautical Archaeology Society develop invaluable skills for active members of the CMA and students.
* Sixth International Conference on Waterfront Archaeology: From Shipyards to Fishing Settlements: Medieval Maritime Industries in NW Europe at the Avenue Campus, University of Southampton on September 17-19 2002 in conjunction with the Hampshire and Wight Trust for Maritime Archaeology.
