Doing business

The first post to the new website. Usually, this would be warm welcome. However, I want to draw an immediate distinction between historyhuntersinternational.org - of which I am webmaster - and here.

This site is purely commercial. Hence the dot com.

Our business here - and by "our" I mean yours, mine and our directors - is making business. Archaeology is practised as a commercial activity very widely. So is maritime archaeology, marine salvage, and survey ing on land and at sea. There are also numerous professional archival researchers.

There need be no conflict between these sciences, professions and commerce.

That there is much conflict is not the fault of the industry, but dishonest people, lax laws and in many nations, government disinterest. At sea, we have a number of salvage companies posing as being interested in heritage - which there are not - and divers posing as archaeologists. On land, we have nighthawks raiding archaeology sites.

That's not the way we operate.

Much of our time is spent exposing fraud and the posers. Too much time, it feels often. We will stick to our guns, however, for there is no proper place in business, or science, for dishonesty.

We are always open to collaborative projects and the involvement of suitably qualified individuals and companies.

Let us know - post here, if you like - if any of this rings a bell with you.
